DIY Felt Monogram Pillow
To make this pillow you will need
1/2 yard of fabric - I chose a yummy oatmeal linen
14" by 20" pillow form
1 sheet of felt - I picked a chocolate brown
Felt or Fabric glue
Coordinating thread for fabric and felt
Sewing machine
I made my monogram on my computer with word. It was really easy. FYI to make mine large enough I printed out my letter on 11 by 17 paper.
I cut my linen fabric to size. I always make the pillow cover smaller than the insert so the pillow looks full. I subtract and inch on each side to do this. But then you need to allow for a half inch seam on each size so the fabric ends up being the same size as the insert (14' by 20") - simple enough.
I then cut out my monogram from the paper and pin it to the felt. Don't worry if it doesn't exactly fit on the felt. You can do it in sections. The top curve on my P was a different piece. Then cut out the letter from the felt and unpin the paper.
Layout the felt letter on the fabric and determine where you want it to go on the pillow. Once you have it laid out on one piece of fabric, use felt or fabric glue to glue it in place. This is just to hold it in place while you sew it on.
Now you will need to get out the sewing machine. With the thread that matches the felt use a simple running stitch to outline the letter sewing it to the fabric. Iron both pieces of fabric.
Now you can put the pillow together. I decided to not put in a zipper and just sew the pillow together. Pin both side of the fabric together wrong side up.
Change thread in the sewing machine to match the pillow. Sew a half inch seam on each side except the bottom. On the bottom sew in a few inches on each side. Turn the pillow right side out. Iron if necessary. Stuff the pillow with the form and hand sew the bottom seam closed.
Wow - I think it looks so beautiful. It was only $18 to make it instead of the $79 on Etsy. What do you think?
